Vintage IBM Laptop 8573-121
Predecessor to Laptops.
The IBM 8573-121, a portable computer weighing 9 kg, was designed in a briefcase format.
Model 8573-121
This 'portable' computer weighed 9kg and featured a red and brown plasma display capable of displaying 16 shades of gray. The screen could be tilted for optimal viewing.
To the right of the screen, there was a 3.5" 1.44MB floppy disk drive. It popped out from the top and could also be tilted.
This machine was one of two models referred to as 'luggables' that IBM produced as part of the PS/2 family.
In the 8573-121 configuration, it had a 386DX CPU running at 20MHz paired with a 120MB hard drive. All in all, this was a high-end mobile computing system in its day. It operated solely on AC power and did not have an internal battery.
The display panel was of the plasma type and showed everything in a bright orange color. It supported a maximum 16-color VGA output.
The machine's integrated graphics were also VGA and could drive an external CRT display in up to 16 colors at 640x480.
